South Tyne Drilling Limited

South Tyne Drilling Limited is a family-run specialist contractor based in Washington, with a long-established focus on landfill drilling. Established in 1989, the company works throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland and presents itself as one of the longest-serving landfill drilling specialists in the sector.

Its core work includes drilling gas wells, leachate wells and monitoring wells on landfill sites. Boreholes can be produced in a range of diameters and to depths beyond 60 metres, with temporary steel casing used where required. The company also undertakes natural ground drilling and rotary piling, giving it scope to adapt its approach to demanding ground conditions and site requirements.

A modern fleet of Comacchio and Casagrande hydraulic drilling rigs supports the work. The track-mounted machines are described as compact, manoeuvrable and suitable for rapid mobilisation, while the range of equipment provides flexibility across different borehole diameters and depths. The company also highlights experience working in constrained locations, beside active railways and on projects requiring complex mobilisation.

Quality and safety are prominent in the company’s presentation. South Tyne Drilling states that it is certified to ISO 9001, follows DSEAR requirements and prepares site-specific method statements and risk assessments. Its team includes qualified lead drillers, experienced operational management and trained staff, offering clients a practical, directly managed service for specialist drilling projects.
